Biographical Details
He was the son of Robert Ashton I and in 1813-14 was the mason responsible for building 18, Park Lane, London. On 22 August 1812 Lord Ashburnham recorded a payment of £5 11s for a quantity of ‘Plimouth Marble slab’ at 12/- a foot sent to Ashburnham Place. Attached to the account details is a receipt. In 1815 the will of Henry Ashton, stone mason of Swallow Street, Piccadilly - presumably the same - was proved. All was left to his wife Rachel Ashton. His son Thomas Ashton was bequeathed the shop, yard, tools and wearing apparell, with the wish that he continue ‘the business of stone mason to which I have brought him up’ (PROB 11/1567, ff5-6).
