Biographical Details
Responsible for a number of tablets in Kent which Gunnis thought ‘good for a provincial statuary’ (Gunnis 1968, 21). He considered the tablet commemorating Sir John Twisden, with its relief reminiscent of the work of John Bacon II, to be his best work (2). Assiter was employed by the Earl of Romney on mason’s work during the rebuilding of ‘The Mote’, near Maidstone (Building accounts, Maidstone Museum). He is buried in the graveyard of Maidstone Parish Church.
