Biographical Details
Marble masons, they continued the business of Samuel and Thomas Franceys until c1844. The firm was controlled by Thomas Franceys and William Spence and then, after Franceys died in 1829, by Spence alone. They sign a number of monuments, and a terracotta bust of King George III is inscribed ‘Pub by/T Franceys & Spence/Sculptors Liverpool/1820’ (8). It seems likely that this work was modelled by Spence, whose bust of William Roscoe was also published at that time in the form of a small bronze.
